While the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency updated its guidelines for pollinator risk assessments in 2014, the agency continues to either fail to conduct full assessments, or dismiss concerning data it receives. New research published by the Soil Health Institute provides fresh insights into the vital role that soil organic carbon levels can play in preventing drought, reducing flooding and improving the health and water retention of soils used to grow crops. Producers and handlers who are certified organic or who are transitioning to organic production can now apply for the USDA’s Organic and Transitional Education and Certification Program and Organic Certification Cost Share Program, which help producers and handlers cover the cost of organic certification, along with other related expenses.

USDA accepting applications to help cover costs of organic, transitioning producers

Producers and handlers who are certified organic or who are transitioning to organic production can now apply for the USDA’s Organic and Transitional Education and Certification Program and Organic Certification Cost Share Program, which help producers and handlers cover the cost of organic certification, along with other related expenses. Applications for OTECP and OCCSP are both due Oct. 31, according to the USDA.
