New study finds that pesticides make it harder for male bees to attract mates. Around the world, bees are facing many threats, including toxic pesticides, climate change, disease, and habitat loss. An international research team led by Julius-Maximilians-University Würzburg has investigated the impact of pesticides on the reproduction of wild bees. The experts have discovered that pesticide exposure interferes with reproduction among wild bees in the very earliest phase – the mating phase. In Athens Wisconsin, two local organic farms are partnering with New Beginnings for Refugees. The new partnership will bring access to high-quality produce to Afghan refugee families. Cattail Organics and Red Door Family Farm are the two farms participating in the partnership. Cattail Organics and Red Door Family Farm will support 10 families for 20 weeks to give them access to fresh, locally grown organic produce. Both farms are able to do this with the help of a matching grant from The FairShare CSA Coalition and fundraising. The total for the partnership is $8,000.
