A new soil-based farm will add 140,000 square feet of state-of-the-art growing and processing operations to supply affordable organic herbs and leafy greens throughout the San Antonio region. There’s a long list of farming and ranching practices and requirements necessary to bear a USDA organic label. Growers, processors, and distributors follow these lists of regulations to ensure accurate organic production and labeling compliance. On the heels of an October National Organic Standards Board meeting, organic policy leaders approved two additional substances as acceptable for use in organic production under the National Organic Program (NOP). This means growers, producers, and handlers of organic products now have two more tools in their toolkits when producing products that wear the organic seal. One of the tools the NOP added was paper pots to the approved substance list. The global organic pet food market is to reach $29.2 billion by 2031. An increase in pet ownership among people living in both developed and developing countries, an increase in awareness about organic food, a rise in disposable income, a rapid change in lifestyle, and a rise in pet health awareness are expected to drive the growth of the global pet food market.
