Organic ag sales are up 31% in three years. There are more farms and more land in organic production — 16,585 farms and 5.5 million certified acres — than ever before. The USDA conducted its first organic survey in 2008. Iowa farmers are growing more organic corn, soybeans, hay and oats, driving a 30% spike in the state’s organic acres over the past three years, a new U.S. Department of Agriculture report shows. EPA reapproves the dangerous pesticide dicamba. Administrator Andrew Wheeler said the decision will provide “certainty to growers as they make future purchasing decisions.” He said the new approval circumvents issues with the prior approval by increasing the size of buffer zones between dicamba-sprayed crops and other crops and also increasing the buffer size for endangered species. New York organic growers rank third in number of organic farms, fourth in certified acres and seventh in sales

New York organic farms sold $298 million in organic commodities, up 38% from 2016. This ranks New York seventh, behind California, Washington, Pennsylvania, Oregon, Texas and North Carolina.
