The Organic Trade Association applauds the introduction of critical bipartisan legislation in Congress to ensure organic standards continuously evolve and improve, and to hold the federal government accountable for keeping up with the needs and expectations of the dynamic organic marketplace. Portland, Oregon-based Organically Grown Company has launched a new ‘Organic is the Answer’ consumer campaign. This online hub provides science-supported facts and resources designed to help people navigate the complexities of food certifications and labeling and inform them as to why organic matters for the health of people and the planet, according to a news release. “Organic is the Answer” debuts this month with a public service-style campaign targeting Northwest citizens and beyond, the release said. Organic Valley, America’s largest organic farmer-owned dairy cooperative, is excited to announce the eagerly awaited release of its Organic Reduced Fat Eggnog, now available nationwide for the 2023 holiday season. With a made-from-scratch recipe, the new eggnog delivers a great-tasting, creamy flavor that consumers will love. And like all Organic Valley products, the delicious eggnog is made with high-quality, organic ingredients, including milk from small family farms where the cows are raised without the use of antibiotics, synthetic hormones, toxic pesticides, or GMOs. A key component of the new United States Department of Agriculture Transition to Organic Partnership program is mentorship for farmers transitioning to organic production. Farmers can now apply as a mentor or transitioning farmer mentee. Mentors will be paid $3,000 and mentees will receive a $500 stipend upon completing the mentorship. San Diego-based Organics Unlimited thinks that consumers are willing to pay a fair price for bananas that are ethically sourced and organically grown, says Daniella Velazquez de Leon, manager. “We’ve partnered with retailers who embraced this belief, raised their retail price to $1.29 per pound and found that customers continued to purchase bananas,” she said. “Even with a 30% price increase, bananas remain among the most budget-friendly items in the produce department, and that [10 cents to 30 cents] difference on the grocery bill makes a massive difference for producers and results in a win-win across the supply chain from grower to retailer.”
