The USDA conducted a survey of certified organic farms across the country in 2021. The survey showed that Wisconsin is still second in the nation for the total number of organic farms with 1,455, up about 6 percent from the same survey in 2019. California continues to lead the industry with 3,061 farms, while New York came in third at 1,407 farms. U.S. Senators Susan Collins and Angus King and Congresswoman-elect Chellie Pingree today welcomed a $250,000 federal investment to strengthen Maine’s organic food supply chain and support independent organic producers. Awarded through the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA), the Value-Added Producer Grant (VAPG) program funding will help Apple Creek Farm LLC, an organic farm in Bowdoinham, expand processing, marketing, and sales of their certified organic products, boosting revenue and creating jobs.
