Today we are interviewing EcoFashion Corp about their commitment to a healthy planet in honor of Earth Month!

Why is it important for your brand to celebrate Earth Month and how are you celebrating throughout the month?

ECOfashion Corp brands are built on the bounty of and respect for Mother Earth, so it’s a no-brainer.

We are participating in Fashion Revolution’s ‘I Made Your Clothes’ campaign to showcase the relationship we have with our farmers. Our products are GOTS certified, which means they meet the highest standards for a finished organic textile product. GOTS-certification is holistic and goes beyond environmental standards— payment of a living wage, safe working conditions, and meeting an abundance of other social standards that empower workers are required as well.

In addition to our Fashion Revolution partnership, we are also taking over a room at the Walker Hotel in Tribeca, which is hosting a series of events throughout Earth Month. Additionally, Swapateria is an activation that promotes circular fashion by exchanging gently used clothes in your closet for another’s gently used clothes. The ECOfashion Corp brands will have a closet of our own to promote this initiative. We are also hosting a keynote speaking event in partnership with other major players in the eco-lifestyle space. Stay tuned!

And last, but certainly not least, we are promoting our Earth Month statement tees. Each t-shirt has a message on it from “It’s Real: Climate Change” to “Earth Goddess.” Shop the collection to wear the change you wish to see this Earth Month.

What does your brand do to help create a healthier environment and to treat the planet more respectfully every day?

We only use sustainable ingredients, giving consumers a way to live organically and avoid harmful plastics and pesticides. By giving that option to more people, both from the consumer lens with Farm to Home, Seed to Style, and YES AND, and from the business lens with MetaWear, we can make a bigger difference to our soil, air, oceans, not to mention human health and wellness.

Why is it important for your brand to be organic?

Sustainability is in our DNA. I founded our ECOfashion Corp brands to support the movement to convert cotton acreage to organic in India. It’s better for the planet and for our skin, and it’s better for the farmers and workers too. It’s not a question of why for me, it’s why not choose organic?

What does organic do to make the planet healthier?

Growing food and fiber organically and regeneratively enriches the soil. It stays fertile due to a variety of farming techniques, like crop rotation and low tillage. The soil retains water better, so less water is needed. There is less runoff and what does runoff does not pollute waterways because organic farming uses no harmful chemicals like glyphosate. Organic and regenerative agriculture has the ability to trap carbon in the soil, reducing and even reversing the impacts of climate change. I could go on—there really is no reason not to go organic. The positive impacts are endless. And this is just the planet aspect. It benefits biodiversity and human health and farmer livelihoods, too!

How can consumers celebrate Earth Month?

Spend time in nature. Plant a tree. Offset your carbon emissions. Try not to buy new things containing plastic. Pick up litter that you see, even if it’s not yours. There are too many things to count and in fact, I think we really should consider it “Earth Day every day.” It’s really simple to do one small thing every day—it adds up!
