An organic farmer was poisoned after intruders dowsed his vegetables with pesticides, striking a national chord amid debate over intensive agriculture. Mike Little of Latrobe, Penn. is one of 56 farmers in Pennsylvania making the switch to organic with help from the Rodale Institute’s farm consulting program. Those farmers have committed to turn 4,000 acres organic. Often, organic systems have been portrayed as a remedy for the heavy use of agricultural chemicals or intensive farming. Earlier this month, the European Commission launched a public consultation on its future Action Plan on Organic Farming. This sector will play an important role in achieving the European Green Deal ambition, and reaching the objectives set out in the Farm to Fork and Biodiversity Strategies. British Columbia winery, CedarCreek, transition to certified organic farming created a ‘wine farm’. In unison, the wildlife is assisting CedarCreek with its transition to growing and producing Certified Organic grapes and wine.
